Post undergrad. university, 7 years in STEM Industry

As a woman in a male dominated industry, what has been the biggest challenge you have faced in your career, and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge has been not allowing my determination to be diminished or diluted by stereotypes. Personally, I used my education, experience and constant learning to achieve success and remain passionate about my work.

What inspired you to join this industry?

The impact that can be made in STEM industries is significant and sustainable.

What changes, if any, have you seen with regards to women in your field?

Nowadays, women are challenging themselves more to take-on leadership roles.

How can we attract more women to consider a career in the STEM fields?

  1. Encourage women to understand (even if it is to a basic level) why STEM fosters sustainability on a small and global scale
  2.  Encourage women to learn how to integrate/apply STEM into their diverse passions and businesses 
  3. Share success stories about women who have fulfilling careers in STEM.

If you were to advise other young women starting their careers in the tech or within the STEM fields, what is the one thing you would say to them?

When not working, what do you do for fun?

Reading engineering and economics magazines, DIY at home, playing with my dog, enjoying the gym.
